CGC@IU Winter Update!
Sun Dec 13, 2009 1:08 AM

HOWDY, PARDNERS!

CGC@IU is back at it with some interesting news bits. Let's start with the most heartwarming first!

GameZombie.tv is holding a charity for Child's Play!

For those of you in town (or any of you!), GameZombie.tv, one of our favorite partners, will be holding a charity event for the great organization Child's Play. This 3-day event will be taking place from Saturday, December 19th at 4:30PM to Monday, December 21st at 4:30pm. Tune in to http://www.gamezombie.tv/charity to contribute and follow the progress! Hopefully, you will have room in your expansive hearts for this fantastic cause! Help gamers in need!

Heroes of Newerth at IU

S2 Games' forthcoming hero arena game, based heavily off of the popular Warcraft III mod, DotA, is coming to IU! If you attended LAN War XVII, then you remember S2 Games had sent a couple of representatives to the event, and they were handing out beta keys. Well, they have hired a campus representative here at IU (me) to continue that effort and get the community here roaring! I am looking to field a team to represent IU in matches against other schools, culminating in a tournament early in 2010. If you are not yet in the beta, join the Facebook group and write on the wall to get a key! I have plenty to hand out, so let's see this thing take off!

CGC@IU needs new staff!

Are you a gamer? Are you interested in helping run the largest and most successful gaming club in the state? Are you looking for ways to bolster your resume, or trying to make a career in gaming?

THEN THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE!

The Computer Gaming Club at IU is a student-run organization, created to facilitate the growth of the gaming community at IU, and, most importantly, to bring gamers together. Our mission has always been to erase the social stigma attached to gaming and bring it into the spotlight with great events, great opportunities, and great friends. We are currently seeking motivated individuals to help in official positions and otherwise.

We are in need of a vice president and secretary, although all officers perform virtually the same duties, save for the treasurer, who is special. If you are in need of some volunteer work with great benefits and some rare opportunities in the gaming industry, then this is your call!

Please post on our forums a brief description of yourself and what capacity in which you would like to get involved. Every little bit helps!

That's it for now. Keep an eye peeled for more information from us as the new semester approaches!

What YOU need to know for LAN War XVII!
Tue Nov 10, 2009 12:36 PM

With the LAN just days away, here's the skinny on what's important to know.

Schedule of events (These times are relatively fluid. We are not responsible for smoke breaks or other absences.):

Doors open at 11:00AM for all guests. Tournaments will begin at the listed times, HOWEVER, teams are expected to be LOCKED DOWN a half hour beforehand to draft the bracket and fix any connectivity issues. Please use our Autonomous LAN Party (ALP) service to set up teams.

1:30-4:30pm Team Fortress 2 6v6 Neutral Control Point

Dinner at 6:00pm--Pizza and subs, soda/water to drink.

7:30pm-12:30am HoN 5v5 -RD

1:00am-3:30am Counter-Strike: Source 5v5

4:00am-6:00am Iron Man CoD4 FFA

We apologize if the tournaments do not run on the strict schedule, but things happen, and we will do our best. All tournament rulings are considered final unless a dispute is brought up. Demos will be recorded of the games.

[Some more things to remember]

Bring with you: your computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, a headset, any/all game or OS disks, and whatever snacks/drinks you might want that we are not offering.

DO NOT bring: Speakers, space-hogs, weapons, drugs, alcohol. Please use good judgment.

Wear your badge at ALL TIMES, so we know you are supposed to be there! If you are seen not wearing it, you will be asked to present it, and if you cannot, then you will be asked to leave until you can present it. There is the possibility of theft and damage to property, but the CGC@IU is not responsible for any such incidents at any events, including LAN War XVII.

There are a number of nearby eateries and convenience stores, if you find yourself hungry before or after dinner. If you are not familiar with the area, feel free to ask us any questions.

Officers are eligible for the prize drawings and for tournament prizes. Since the club is run by students and not privately, we feel this is fair.

If you are WALKING IN, please understand a few things:

We ordered food for the people that have registered ahead of time, meaning we only ordered enough for the people we KNEW were coming. There will be enough for everyone, but you will be asked to go to the back of the line to allow the pre-paid guests to eat first.

You must bring with you a signed copy of the event waiver (found here: http://www.iugaming.com/waiver.doc). If you do not bring one, you automatically agree to the terms of the waiver.

Pre-registered guests will be given seating priority.

FILE-SHARING AND PIRACY RULES:

We do not condone or support any kind of file-sharing at any of our events. This behavior is illegal, and is the exact reason we ask for your MAC address and driver's license number when you register. If you are caught, you will be asked to leave the venue immediately. However, we do not have the time to police the traffic on the network. Please be honest and do not make our jobs any harder.

PARKING

Please review the following image to find appropriate parking. Any D or E spot on weekends are fine to park in. Do NOT park in an A, C, or "reserved" spot. Your best bet is to DROP OFF YOUR MATERIALS in the circle drive, then park your car across 17th St. in pavillion parking.
